The Bedwetter

The Bedwetter
by Sarah Silverman
Rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Review:
I thought this book was just ok. I laughed a few times. She gave a lot of the behind the scenes workings of her career that were interesting but I think if I had watched any of the shows she talks about, I would have been much more interested in what was happening. As it was, I have never seen any of the shows, so most of the information was irrelevant to me.

There were also some serious sad, OMG did that really happen, moments in the book. That made it really hard for me to get through. It was supposed to be this super funny story and instead it was a lot of filthy, behind-the-scenes details about the writing process from her shows along with stories of her life that might be funny or might be really shockingly sad.

Unless you're a huge Sarah Silverman fan, I don't think you'd get much out of this book. I didn't feel like I wasted my time, but I definitely didn't find it to be a fun, lighthearted book to read.

My Review:
I found this book very amusing. The author had a nice way with phrases that gave you a little puzzle and laugh figuring out what the aliens were talking about - like "hearing systems" or "sleeping support" for ears and bed. Lots of very graphic sex, but even that was pretty amusing to me.

As for world building, I was pretty disappointed. The "alien" words seemed a little too familiar and when I did some checking, they were all Czech words. If there was some mention in the book about why these aliens spoke Czech, I could understand it, but there was no explanation. I would have also liked a little more detail like how the aliens determine a soulmate, why they'd take a whole transport ship to Earth for one human female (instead of one ship for lots of females), why were the alien ants the enemies of the aliens and what's so great about being a "breaker".

If this was a prequel to a series, I'd understand it. But the next book in the series is also only about this same length (75 pages). I was amused enough by the book that I might get the second in the series and also read this one again, but if you're looking for a sci-fi world this isn't it.
